64 Loops Weave a Surface Through Itself

BEHIND THE WORK

Can one continuous line reveal a surface that passes through itself?

The point follows 64 cross-sectional loops of the Steiner Roman surface. The slow angle u sweeps across the whole form while the fast angle v draws its repeated loops. Together, the three coordinate equations produce three lobes whose sheets intersect along the center. The construction is shown in stages in the video.

Artismathic turns equations into visual art—one function at a time.

THE MATHEMATICAL RULE

u=t,v=64t,0≤t≤πu=t, v=64t, 0≤t≤πx=sin(2u)cos2vx=sin(2u)cos²vy=sin(u)sin(2v)y=sin(u)sin(2v)z=cos(u)sin(2v)z=cos(u)sin(2v)
