2 Pyramids and 8 Points Reveal Kepler's Star

BEHIND THE WORK

Can two 3D pyramids create the ancient Star of David in space?

In 1609, astronomer Johannes Kepler discovered the Stella Octangula (eight-pointed star)—the first and only regular stellation of the regular octahedron. It is geometrically composed of two dual regular tetrahedra interpenetrating each other: one in glowing Solar Gold, the other in Electric Cyan. Their outer 8 vertices define the corners of a regular cube, while their inner intersection forms a perfect regular octahedron. When viewed in 2D orthographic projection, it forms the iconic six-pointed Star of David (Hexagram), which transforms into an eight-pointed spatial star upon 3D rotation.

Artismathic turns equations into visual art—one function at a time.
