Can One Line Build a 3D Hourglass?
One continuous line wraps around an hourglass-shaped envelope. As t moves from 0 to 2π, x(t) = r(t) cos(37t) and y(t) = r(t) sin(37t) make 37 revolutions. z(t) = 3 sin(t) lifts and lowers the point. The radius r(t) = 0.75 + 1.6 sin²(t) expands near the top and bottom and contracts at the middle. The completed wire structure rotates to reveal its depth and open ends. This is an hourglass-shaped mathematical artwork, not a simulation of sand or a solid glass surface.
Artismathic turns equations into visual art—one function at a time.
