Can One Formula Grow a Crystal Flower?

BEHIND THE WORK

Can one formula grow a crystal flower?

One point travels around the center as θ moves from 0 to 2π. The superformula s(θ) = [|cos(5θ/4)|¹·⁷ + |sin(5θ/4)|¹·⁷]⁻¹/⁰·²⁵ creates five broad crystalline points. The radius r(θ) = 5.2s(θ)[1 + 0.07 cos(31θ)] adds 31 fine ripples, and x(θ) = r(θ) cos(θ), y(θ) = r(θ) sin(θ) place the moving point on the screen. One continuous curve becomes a faceted flower.

Artismathic turns equations into visual art—one function at a time.
